DECKHAND/ASSISTANT ENGINEER
Description: A full-time paid position for a student with a strong mechanical/engineering background. Applicant will work alongside the Operations Manager while learning various mechanical systems on the vessel and performing preventative maintenance and repairs on a 90-foot motor vessel. Applicant will also serve as a deckhand/assistant engineer while the vessel is underway, under the supervision of the Captain and the Cruise Coordinator. While underway, responsibilities include passenger safety, vessel cleanliness and appearance, and security.
Requirements: Must be proficient with hand and power tools and their safe use. Applicant should have basic knowledge of marine diesels, A/C and D/C electrical systems, pumps and hydraulics. Must have strong people skills, be a self-starter and be able to work unsupervised. Should have completed one or more of the following courses;
- EG102: Introduction to Marine Engineering,
- EG280: Basic Electricity
- EG200: Basic Electronics
DECKHAND/SAFETY OFFICER
Description: A full-time paid position for a student with either academic or hands-on experience in small vessel operations. While under the supervision of the Operations Manager, the Captain and the Cruise Coordinator, the applicant will be responsible for shipboard operations, line and cargo handling, and vessel cleanliness and appearance. The applicant will serve as a deckhand/assistant safety officer, and assume responsibility for passenger and crew safety and security. This will include weekly safety inspections of the vessel and facility, conducting safety meetings, and implementing company safety policies.
Requirements: Student must be willing to work hard with a positive attitude and have strong interpersonal skills. Must be self-motivated; be able to exercise good judgment and work without supervision. Candidate should have completed at least one of the following;
- NS-241: Seamanship
- NS-262: Navigation Rules I
- NS-292: Electronic Navigation
- NS-345: Ship Handling
DECKHAND Description: A full-time paid position designed as an introduction into the passenger vessel industry. While working direct supervision of the Captain and Cruise Coordinator, the student will be responsible for line handling, cargo loading and unloading, vessel cleanliness and maintenance, conducting rounds, passenger safety and other duties as described.
Requirements: The student must possess a strong work ethic and positive attitude. Though previous marine experience is a bonus, it is not required. Must be self-motivated and be able to work in a variety of positions as needed. Candidate should have completed the following course:
