We are proud to work with Blue Ocean Society for Marine Conservation, a local non-profit organization, in providing hands-on educational programs and our dockside touch tank. Blue Ocean is a New Hampshire-based organization that promotes awareness and conservation of the marine environment through education and research in New England. For more information on Blue Ocean's research, educational programs, volunteer opportunities and student internships, call 603-431-0260 or visit the website.
Typical things you'll find in our touch tank include green crabs, hermit crabs, mussels, clams, whelks, nudibranchs (sea slugs), periwinkles, sea urchins, sea stars and a variety of seaweeds. Free educational presentations are provided at the tank before most daytime Isles of Shoals cruises, and a smaller tank is available for viewing on the M/V Thomas Laighton on most Isles of Shoals cruises. To find out what's currently in the tank and what educational programs will be running this week, visit http://www.blueoceansociety.org/tank/ |
