Spring is quickly approaching and that means fieldtrip planning at the Isles of Shoals Steamship Co. We are very excited about the 2007 season as we continue to expand our “Dedication to Education” fieldtrip series.
We have hired a Director of Educational Planning & Curriculum to assist area educators by planning curriculum that is aligned with state standards and coordinated with the cooperation of a variety of field experts. We understand the time and budgeting challenges posed on educators and the importance of a well planned fieldtrip.
Based on valued feedback from both educators and students, we have structured our cruises to include less talking from the “unseen” narrator, to smaller groups that rotate to various stations. Our goal is to provide a well rounded experience for all students. We understand not all students are interested in the same topics. By allowing time for continued independent exploration of our stations, we have discovered that students gain a deeper awareness of the region, as well as a deeper awareness of areas they have a personal interest in.
Our convenient location in the Piscataqua River Basin provides an excellent opportunity to capitalize on a variety of learning outcomes involving Commerce, Culture, Seamanship, Marine Environment, History and Lore & Legends. We will continue to offer our F.R.E.E program for those in need of funding. We are also focusing on making the cruises as “weather proof” as possible to avoid the stress and disappointment poor weather can bring. Additionally, we will be able to better implement the various programs developed as a result of our expanded learning partnerships.
We are pleased to attach further descriptions of our field trips, as well as a more complete list of our learning partnerships including NOAA, UNH, CINEMAR and the Blue Ocean Society for Marine Conservation. Please do not hesitate to contact us if you have any questions or suggestions. We send best wishes for the remainder of the school year. We hope you are pleased with our efforts, and that we have the opportunity of welcoming you onboard once again.
Warm Regards,
